PINK TESTING PENS AND INK

PINK TEST INK AND PENS

INFORMATION ON PINK TEST INK - AVAILABLE FROM 30-60 mN/m (dyne/cm)

In order to be able to provide the customer with a “non-toxic” ink and pens, we have continued to develop the PINK test products, as follows:

  • From 45 to 60 mN/m (dyne/cm) in single steps with an accuracy of ± 0.5 mN/m (dyne/cm)
  • The ink from 30 to 44 mN/m (dyne/cm) is brighter (the observation time here was 4 seconds)
  • The ink from 45 to 60 mN/m (dyne/cm) is darker (the observation time here was 2 seconds).
  •  This difference is also clearly visible in the color prints of the labels and tubing.

LEVELS

  • The ink/pens from 30 to 44 mN/m (dyne/cm) is labels as Xi/Xn – see safety data sheet
  • The ink/pens from 45 to 60 mN/m (dyne/cm) is not labeled as such – see safety data sheet
  • Since March 2007, we are able to offer in addition to our present test pens 30-44 mN/m (dyne/cm) (filled with our test ink PINK) test pens in the following settings: 46 / 48 / 50 / 52 / 54 / 56 / 58 / 60 mN/m (dyne/cm) (accuracy ± 1 mN/m (dyne/cm)

The ink/pens can also be used as a replacement for our BLUE test inks, particularly if a non-toxic ink is specifically desired.

The ink/pens are not produced according to any DIN/ISO standard. However, the application and handling should be the same as the conditions determined in DIN 53364 or ISO 8296

The fact that there may be slight variations compared with testing ink/pens compliant with DIN 53364 or ISO 8296 is known to us depending on the surface to be tested. Different behavior can result from the differences in proportions of polar and dispersed components from those corresponding BLUE pens depending on the interaction with the plastic tested.

PINK TEST INKS (18-08XX)
for Testing Treatment Levels Achieved on Polymer Plastics

To make possible the printing and adherence of polymer plastics it is inherent that the surface be treated, so that the surface tension rises to a defined point.

Untreated PE and PP have a surface tension of about 30 dynes/cm. Well treated PE and PP should have a value of about 38-40 dynes/cm for printing.

Polymer plastics with a surface tension of less than 37 dynes/cm have binding difficulties. This is best demonstrated by testing ink adhesion using the “cellophane tape test.” If on the other hand, the level is higher than 42 dynes/cm and if the film has undergone two-sided treatment, the high treatment level can also cause the film of printing ink to lift off on the roll.

The level of treatment can be determined through the simple application of the test inks (please see Method of Application).

TESTING INKS:

  • The ink from 30 to 44 mN/m (dyne/cm) is brighter (the observation time here is 4 seconds)
  • The ink from 45 to 60 mN/m (dyne/cm) is darker (the observation time here is 2 seconds)
